Course Notes

Welcome to History 160: World History to 1500!

This is an eight-week, online course.

For each scheduled lesson you will do the following:

  • First, look over the Lesson Preview and Lesson Outcomes.  These will help direct you to important concepts and key ideas that you should be considering as you read. You can also refer to the textbook website for the assigned chapters.  It has some useful review information.  You'll find the link in the Web Links section for each lesson.
  • Second, do the assigned readings from the textbook. Once you've done the readings you might refer back to the learning objectives and key terms.
  • Third, go to the discussion forum.  You don't need to post for every lesson, but you are required to post comments and responses in the four discussion forums. I've posted some questions that you can respond to and some instructions.  This is a graded assignment, but don't get freaked out.  I'm looking for responses that demonstrate that you've thought a bit about the material and the questions, but I'm certainly not looking for perfection. IMPORTANT NOTE: You can't enter the Discussion Forum directly from within the individual lessons -- you need to click on the link to the left on the main mpage.
  • Fourth, make sure you complete the reading quizzes for each lesson/module.  Quizzes cand be accessed through the Course Quizzes/Exams link.
  • Fifth, you're done!  Note also that there may be some weeks that you will have other obligations.
